Good Samaritan Inclusive Primary School

A place where kindness changes lives

Nestled in Mukono, Good Samaritan Inclusive Primary School is more than just a school — it is a sanctuary of compassion, resilience, and hope.

Home to over 50 children living with disabilities, alongside more than 100 children with special needs supported from the community and 60 children from vulnerable families, the school is a powerful example of what true inclusion looks like. Here, every child belongs.

A culture of kindness

At Good Samaritan, kindness is not just taught — it is lived every day.

Children learn side by side, regardless of ability, supported by a beautiful “buddy system” where children with and without disabilities care for and learn from each other. Many pupils have faced rejection or stigma in their communities, yet within these walls, they are valued, supported, and loved.

The staff, from teachers to matrons are deeply committed, patient, and skilled, placing the health, dignity, and wellbeing of every child at the centre of everything they do. This ethos aligns perfectly with Viva! Uganda’s motto: Be kind to all kind.

Nourishing bodies, transforming learning

Through our partnership, Viva! Uganda provides fresh greens, fruits, and plant-based meals to the school — and the impact has been immediate and powerful.

In the words of pupils and teachers:

  • “More energy.”
  • “Less sickness.”
  • “Better able to concentrate.”
  • “Less dozing in class.”

Food is not just feeding children — it is transforming their ability to learn, grow and thrive.

Children are more alert, more focused, and more engaged in the classroom. It’s a simple but profound reminder that food is medicine.

Overcoming challenges with dignity

Despite limited resources, Good Samaritan continues to provide exceptional care and education. The school faces ongoing challenges, including:

  • Limited access to nutritious food
  • Shortages of learning materials
  • Inadequate furniture and equipment
  • Infrastructure pressures in the residential home

Yet, even in the face of these challenges, the children are healthy, happy, and thriving — a testament to the dedication of the team and the strength of the community.

Building a kinder future

At Good Samaritan, children are not only receiving an education — they are learning empathy, respect, and how to care for others, animals, and the environment.

Together with Viva! Uganda, we are:

🌿 Supporting healthier, plant-based nutrition
🐾 Encouraging compassion for animals
🤝 Promoting inclusion, dignity, and kindness

Looking ahead

The school dreams of expanding its garden to grow more of its own vegetables — creating a sustainable, long-term source of nutritious food for the children.

With the right support, this vision can become a reality.
